Liouhe Night Market: Kaohsiung Part 2

Taiwan is known for its many night markets that fill the streets as the sun sets and one of the most popular ones in Kaohsiung is Liouhe Night Market, located next to Formosa Boulevard Station. Like many other markets, this one is a normal city street during the day before transforming into a bustling market for the night. It is also a popular tourist attraction so if you want to go to one that has more of a local feel, stay tuned for my future posts! :) Nonetheless, this is a good market to start off with as it isn't too large, yet offers an array of snacks, omiyage, accessories and clothing. My friend and I, of course, were there for the food. We saw food that we were dying to try and others that we immediately avoided (fresh brain on a counter didn't look too appetizing to us...). The soups, noodles and stir-fries all looked incredibly delicious, but the humidity and heat made us gravitate towards cooler foods and beverages (fruit milk was a life saver). If you go to Taiwan, a  visit to at least one night market is a must if you want a full Taiwanese experience. They usually open around dusk and close a little after midnight, giving you plenty of time to explore around! Just make sure you don't miss the last train :)

Fresh fruit milk stand!

The popular papaya milk :) I saw lots of people carrying these around with them.

Believe it or not, these lobsters were topped with pure garlic before they were grilled.

My personal recommendation is this dumpling stand :) It doesn't look like much, but each little dumpling had a burst of flavor and there were two types filled with different ingredients such as cabbage, green onion, garlic and chicken.

My friend and I went on a search to find dumplings like these during our trip, but none of them were as good as the ones we had here :)

Apparently leaving your trash and food on tables was normal because I saw tables just covered with shrimp, take-out boxes and cups! O.o

Really wish we had enough room to try one of these sausages!

These were quite popular at other markets with their tiny quail eggs and shrimp inside the fluffy batter.

These huge squid were at every market as well although I didn't see anyone eating them while I was there.

Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
